We're sick. The kids and I are sitting at home, watching Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. I was just thinking, I really should read the book this movie (and Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory) was based on. Everytime I've seen a movie after I've read the book, I've always liked the book better. I wonder if it would be the same with this one. The kids and I really enjoy this movie... so we'll see. I wonder which other books (that later became movies) would be worth reading... ?

I love that movie. Tim Burton did a great job. I can't wait for his version of Alice and Wonderland comes out
didn't you lend the original video to Janet M. at IJH? And she broke it or something? Did you ever get it replaced? Why do I remember that lame detail?
I have to say, I prefer the version that we grew up with. I do like the new one, but Johnny Depp is so freaky weird that it scared my girls.
... and as for books made into movies... I think they make for better movies. Some movies are thrown together so fast without any plot, but when their based on books there is so much more depth to them.
Usually, I prefer the book over the movie, but some movies are actually better than the book like Bridge to Terabithia. The book is simple, but the directors added so much CGI stuff & it was better.
I don't know if Sage is into "American girl" books like my girls are... but if you want to do the movie/book combo I suggest the movies Felicity, Samantha, & Molly. I have to admit I really like listening to my daughters' read me those books.
...and I can't leave a comment without mentioning C.S. Lewis' works. I'm sure you've already read the Narnia series... but there are deeper insights if you go from the movie to the books. When I was pregnant with my 3rd I was really into reading the books that had been made into movies. I read the original Hunchback of Notre Dame, Les Miserables, Tuck Everlasting, Narnia, Bridge to Terabithia, & even Anne of Green Gables. I like the classics or ones that really stir my mind, make me think, teach me, or are controversial. I can't remember what type of novels you like, so I'm not sure how much help I am in suggestions.
